New York has a fucked system for primaries. If you're registered in another party and you didn't switch party affiliations before October the year before, then you aren't eligible to vote in the primaries.
One of my brothers is a huge trump fan and is registered independently, found out too late about New York's insane rules on this to be eligible to vote for him in the primaries today
Another is registered republican but he spent too much time in NYC and it warped his mind to be more liberal. Though he hates all the dem/republican candidates and is talking about voting third party come november.
