Britain gave women the vote in part because of war time efforts where they actually helped out the country a lot.
Also, the ruling parties actually didn't want to give them the vote mainly because, at the time, a woman was pretty much subserviant to her husband and the vote would only be extended to landed people anyway, meaning it would basically just double the conservative vote.
