Germany didnt want the eurozone, or the euro. It was forced on them to allow the unification.
The main reason was to save Italy and France's very devalued currency. Other european governments printed a lot of money to boost their economies, while the central german bank was strict about it, and thus the deutschmark mark was very strong. Tying the euro to it basically gave a huge economical boost to the other european states, while it was a blow to Germany.
France basically demanded it if it were to allow a big Germany again, since they were just done beating it into the ground one generation ago.
