Saturday night live ran a sketch this past weekend about white people and heroin use. they mocked white americans dying from heroin and the toll that it is having on their communities. people are rightfully angry and outraged. It's driven by addiction to legal painkillers that people have prescriptions for for legitimate reasons.
It's not degeneracy it's a failing of our healthcare system to #1. Not find better alternative painkillers for chronic pain and #2. Not manage/limit prescriptions enough, and #3. Not recognize the warning signs of a patient becoming addicted to opioids and getting them detoxed.
People move onto heroin because it's cheaper and easier to get than their prescription medications once they're already addicted.
