Assuming we're talking about the working poor and not the entirely state supported poor they also have large amounts of debt and very low financial security. Telling the entire working and lower middle class that their choice in life is between an absurdly spartan lifestyle or having massive debt and the potential to fall into the state supported poor while some people have absurd levels of wealth is a clear sign there is a problem with wealth equality. Once your working class is in a solid position to have a comfortable lifestyle and the potential to move up the social ladder then you can talk to me about the very wealthy living like kings not being an issue.

I live in rural UK. I'm poor but I'm sur lunged by mansions and estates. The people my age are mostly rich and drive around in flashy cars and have massive birthday parties. Of course these people must be more entitled to this lifestyle than I am. The main reasons for my 'failure' is the he fact that my whole family is poor and always have been. The original concept of Communism has never been successfully executed in any government because of:
1. There needs to be an excess of supplies and services in the society for it to work.
2. All communist governments have been corrupted in some way or form so that the spread isn't equal among all citizens.
3.None of the communist societies have been able to make the original concept work in the real world.
Communism in its purest form isn't a bad idea [read Looking Backwards by Edward Bellamy for an example], but it hasn't ever been executed in this manner because people tend to corrupt things with their greed, and there aren't any countries with the elements needed to make a successful communist republic.

Then when you look at automation and extrapolate how it's likely to advance, the picture looks even more grim. We could end up with a situation where all low skilled labour is automated in the next century or so and the traditional working class is just obsolete in the workforce. What then? 1. Most of the people complaining are not that poor. It's the whole "Occupy Wall Street" movement. Just hipsters with no concept of their own privileges.
