Honestly King George & Parliament fucked it up real bad.

Any sane government would've accepted demands for representation, we got way too big for our boots.

American Revolutionaries also lost their minds when they started rejecting offers of representation during the war.

Benedict Arnold realised all this shit, he's the only revolutionary figure I admire.

>America and Britain could've been united in a great union
>We could control Earth by now
>We could've turned on the French and taken over during the revolution
>The whole world could be speaking English by now

The colonies had a whole list of grievances against the crown that are specifically protected against here in the U.S. by our constitution, which is the rule of the law. The tax issue itself in those days was more about "taxation without representation," which means the colonies were being taxed but they had no representation in Parliament. Today, Americans are represented at all levels of government.

It's a shitty meme.

The issue wasn't the taxation, it was the fact that taxes were levied without the right of representation granted to English citizens. GB disagreed that the colonists were actually citizens. Now, we willingly fuck ourselves. Our issue now isn't some corrupt foreign threat, but our own retardation. That's the difference.

>>
>>71128011
Because Taxes. So the natural move was to fucking lower taxes or provide representation, but parliament was fucking retarded and tried to avoid taking action. They needed reparations from the 7 years war and were expanding too fast.
>>
>>71127321
Quite honestly, it wouldn't really have been great
Half the reason the colonists were also immensely pissed off was the Proclamation Line which made the colonies unable to expand past the Appalachians. Now the British couldve eventually gone back on this deal, or more likely they would not have. A vast majority of the reason America became great, in terms of setting up the potential for greatness, was the Louisiana Purchase and Mexico's independence, both of which likely would never happen unless there was an independent America.
The American Revolution, though not as influential on the world scape as us Americans would like to say, was influential for two things: It created an independent on the American continent that wasn't bound by any native treaties and was as expansionist as humanly possible, and that it greatly influenced other American colonies to try and achieve independence.
American independence was the beginning of the end of colonialism on the continental American continents

But we still love you Britbros

>>
>>71128337
To be honest, I don't think even representation would have worked. You're talking about months to cross the Atlantic just to deliver a message - not at all a viable option for polling.

If it were to happen a century later in the age of the telegraph, Parliament would have probably been more than receptive to the demand for representation.

As it stood, self-governance was realistically the only viable solution. I'm hoping we don't all make the same mistake when we start colonizing other planets that are months/years away.

By the end of the war, the average revolutionary wholeheartedly wanted nothing to do with Britain. And after the revolution, relations between the two were awful for a long period of time.
Relations between Britain and the USA only really ever became positive with each other around 1890 or the early 1900's

It's slow and expensive because local governments control it; they jack up all of the expenses for right of way, renting space on utility poles, etc., and having other rules like demanding donation of equipment and universal coverage.

In places like Kansas City, the city government got out of the way and let Google set up a much better infrastructure.

*Shrug* I don't know that much about the Danish internet infrastructure.

I do think that government colluding with business can be as bad, if not worse, than government alone. Rent-seeking is not limited to the public sphere.

But I think that what Google did in some cities shows how effective private infrastructure can be without government imposing barriers to entry, and that it is not entirely the fault of private enterprise.

I'm not very interested in going back to a 1776 military and government. We get a shitload of value for our tax dollars.

Also, a shitload of people (read: corporations and billionaires) don't pay anywhere near their fair 35% share.

That needs to get fixed.

Once that is collected proper, we can pay down our other expenses & debt and then reduce taxes for everyone.

Also, your premise is simplistic and wrong. The taxes were only one fairly minor part of the equation for claiming independence. Grow up and come back after you've passed high school history.
