Being raised by single mothers, indoctrination during a young age, etc. has all contributed to young (white) men having a large identity crisis about who they are and who they should be.
With the advancements in luxuries, it isn't beneficial for these kids to go out and explore. To achieve greatness.

Combination of drugs, pornography, video games, garbage food and shit parents.
I'm going to catch flak for saying it, but I put most of the blame on video games, I know lots of guys living at home approaching 30 or on the wrong side of it, that do nothing but play games all day and have no real ambition except to unlock some new bullshit weapon skin or get another level or play the next game.
Fuck I have known hardcore drug addicts that are more functional then some of these gamers, least with drugs you have to go outside and interact with others and get money for the drug. Gamers basically sit in a dark corner doing nothing but staring at a fucking screen with pretty pictures for hours on end, while there peers are out interacting with the real world getting ahead.
Reminds me of that episode of star trek where everyone gets addicted to that game and aliens start taking over the ship while everyone is distracted. Basically what's happening to the west right now.

Yes, they are "checking out" in the sense that making use of ample leisure time, marrying later, or taking advantage of social services more. But there is nothing inherently wrong with that.
More unemployed or underemployed people means the workforce is better quality.
When people marry later, they are in a better position financially to raise well-rounded kids.
This is the best time to be alive, but of course, there is always going to be someone wringing their hands with anxiety worried about the collapse of it all.
If this trend really starts being a problem, society will fix itself. The free market will always fix it in the end.
Let them "check out" if you want to use a loaded term like that.
Let people enjoy life.

Not much reason to be an active participant in a society that currently does, and in all likelihood will continue to, hate me.
I work, I pay taxes, I rent until such time as I can afford a house, and a single man on an electrician's salary can easily make that in a few more years. By many measures I am an active member of society. But I'm not. I will probably never marry. I'll stick to picking up easy women who during the daytime run blogs about how much they hate men. I have no interest in a community that will actively shun my opinions because of the colour of my skin or how much was in my parent's bank account when I was growing up. I have no interest in participating in a society that wants to take all the meager earnings I have and give it to people who participate in society to an even lesser degree than me.
In order for me to give society something, I expect some kind of return. Today I see nothing, any contributions to social security I make will go to securing my parent's generation's retirement and lazy people who willingly exist below the poverty line for handouts. I will likely never see a dime of the money forcefully taken from me.
I remember seeing this political cartoon ages ago in school and laughing at it's bias. But now things are strange. The middle class has widened, but now not only does it hold up every one above them here, it holds up the poor as well. And worse, the poor people the middle class is holding and looking down and laughing at how gullible those below them are to be working. Things are fucking broken.
