Weed definitely can increase psychotic effects and for some the effect more temporal rather than permanent, but definitely there. This is particularly the case with strains which are very high in thc, why makes around 5% of the population begin to hear voices and have psychotic episodes while high. The biggest issue with pot is the notion that it needs to keep getting stronger and stronger because people have fetishized it into a social statement. As someone who has smoked the best of shwag, which is ground grown pot, that was fresh, green, hairy, crystally, to the best of dro, to amazing hash, to top grade dabs. My preference lies with having a simple personal shwag joint to anything else. It's like having background music and having everything amplified a bit with a fuzzy feeling and appreciation rather than getting fucked up and out of it for a while.
Weed needs to devolve and only ending the drug war with its archaic weight based laws will do it. Ground grown won't have ridiculous tampered chemical (eg, thc to cbd ratios) levels that cause a lot of the psychological issues so many have from modern strains too.
mental health aside, anyone who wants to pretend that smoking every day doesn't destroy your respiratory system just needs to look at the inside of a well-used bong. especially if you smoke both weed and tobacco. i recently quit both (only edibles/tinctures now) and if i could've seen the shit that's currently coming out of my body when i first started smoking habitually, i would've never touched the shit.

As someone who is a tobacco smoker and former pot smoker, the tar produced from them has completely different results. Marijuana tar was always much easier for my system to clean out and I would simply hack up (sort of like soft pillowy coughs) phlegm with it all the time, with just tobacco it's more sharp full body painful coughs here and there with much less phlegm. Not all tar is the same, but hey this here is anecdotal and simply off of my experience though.

I'm a current weed smoker (for 25 yrs) and former tobacco addict (quit at 26) with asthma, and weed is definitely much, much easier on the respiratory system. No symptoms at all vs. wheezing, phlegm, wet cough etc. Its also an expectorant. For some reason people try to suppress the coughs.. its actually good for you to get shit out of your lungs forcefully once or twice a day.
Plenty of studies show that weed, by itself, is far less injurious than tobacco. The ones that don't you'll always find are conducted in countries (UK being one of them) where people grind their weed and mix it into tobacco to smoke it. Pure propaganda.
