A. The Umayyad Caliphate lasted less than 100 years. Genghis Khan's empire and the US have been more enduring than this shit.
B. Most of the this territory is absolutely worthless, depopulated desert. Especially when the Umayyad's took it in the aftermath of the Sassinid and Byzantine conflicts.

Roman empire did not live to more than a millennium, the roman monarchy, republic, dictatorship, eastern and western roman eras all combined is over a millennium, but do not be mistaken, their empire lasted for a short amount of time.
