Add to this the fact that women are now capable of supporting themselves through work. Then consider that today, both parents need to work to stay afloat, further reducing the role of men as a singular provider.
A final point - white western men have so thoroughly succeeded in making society so safe and free of danger that women no longer feel that they need protection or strength. So the role of protector is diminished. (Dindus and the coming race war will change this).

A lot of that happened to me. My mother married a complete loser... he actually is a retard and has many cognitive disabilities and is totally insane, but that didn't stop my mother from marring him. They divorced 2 year later after having a daughter and then spent the next 15 years fighting in court. My mother was a very angry and bitter person and hated my father because he was such a loser. She saw him in me and abused be psychologically and neglected me for years. She would degrade him and mock him endlessly and then would say to me: "Anon, you're just like your father" over and over again after trashing him. She blamed me and men in general for fucking her life up. She gave my sister access to all the best schools and sent me to nigger-infested public schools.
It really messed me up and pretty much ended my life before it even started.

I think religion has a big thing to do with it. Religious faith is the glue that can unite a family. It doesnt always work, but when it does it is remarkable. An entire family devoted that agrees and is devoted to the same religion.

A couple things. First, the nuclear family you see in mid century advertisements never really existed. Women worked before World War II, especially poor women (as washing women, maids, school marms, etc) and infidelity and children born out of wedlock have always been a thing, it was just less socially acceptable, so it didn't appear as prevalent.
Second, people started to marry for love instead of utility. Before, people had arranged marriages, or courted briefly at the encouragement of their parents and were wed. The division of labor was concrete, and without all the conveniences of modern life, couples relied on each other to get things done. Now, people chace the dopamine high of new love and seek new partners to get it.
