This is because academia to a large part is a racket. Everyone makes sure not to interfere with everyone elses career progression, which is all built on publishing and doing research.
That's how you get millions going to fund a feminist critique on glaciers.
What you need is an independent panel of the most autistic kind of nitpickers who would actually go through and run the numbers for themselves to see if they work (something that's rarely if ever done) and to critique common pitfalls like how the data was sampled (sampling errors is a majority of why studies that say "X has a positive relationship to cancer" are shit).
