Is archery a /pol/ approved hobby?
>>71041654
Absolutely
>>71041654
I'd say so. I haven't done it in almost a decade now though. Much better than staying inside the house rotting away while looking at toxic virtual garbage on the Internet.
Now, if only one could find the motivation for archery again.
As long as you're not a faggot about it.

>>71041654
It is certainly approved. I need to get back into it. I have a couple of staves that I was going to make into bows if they haven't checked too bad.
>>71042107
So it's like darts, but you get to feel good about yourself a the end.
yes, I also make longbows with traditional tools. and hunt with them. Shame it's illegal here to hunt with bows because of 1960's muh poaching but I do it anyways.
>>71042224
Yeah it feels good when I regularly shoot 280-295/300
I have made my primitive bows myself. It always breaks after a couple hundred shots.
I am making a new one but its dark here and its outside so I cant post now.
Is there web resources for smn like me?

>>71042312
Do you stick to traditional long bows, or do you get into some of the other designs as well?
Don't mind archery myself but for some reason the archery society at my uni is filled with leftists and radfems. Not sure if this is particularly unique but in my experience it seems to attract a lot of people you probably don't want to mix with.

>>71045211
Good I'm not doing it, h-haha...
>>71045184
Meat is heavy food and unnecessary.
I'll admit meat is tasty, but hardly optimal for your health since it is hard to digest. Protein, iron and whatnot you can easily get from leaner foods.
Also, your statement is fresh out your ass is it?
>>71044978
It has a lot more to do with what happens with when you run out of ammo for your firearm. With some basic hand tools and some trees, you can make your own bow. If you want to grow flax, you can make your own linen bowstrings. With a file and some mild steel (not the best, but it'll work,) you can make tradepoints. If you want to get into flint knapping, you can make stone points.
>>71045539
That's why we cook meat, retard. To break it down to make it easier to digest.
>>71045539
It's not, but I'm not at work right now so I don't have access to major journals. It was a study I read while I was still browsing /fit/.
I want to start but I can't decide if I want a more modern recurve like the samick sage or something more old school like a Mongolian horse bow.
>>71045235
I love these. A bunch of sources without any personal touch to what they say. But I'll go through them for you.
First sources deal with if eating meat isn't natural, well it is, just not optimal for your health.
The second source is off. Eating meat (more like bone marrow) made us humans. Figuring out how to get meat takes brain power, and made us humans.
The third source contradicts your (I assume) argument that eating meat is good. The article says eating starch got us our big brains.
The fourth source pretty much follows in the tracks of source three.
Am I to interpret you weren't trying to prove meat eating is superior?
>>71041654
Of course. It's the national sport of Bhutan, don't you know? Not a lot of people know that. Then again, not a lot of people know Bhutan.
>>71045697
Then you'd have to make it into mosh.
You don't actually make it that much easier to digest by cooking meat.
Your stomach acids are still going to think you swallowed something like rubber.
Chewing a lot does help, but it's still tough.
>>71045735
You should try and remember names and titles in the future then, if you wish to be believed.
>>71046052
Didn't you check the names of those sites? The blue pilled one should be quite obvious.
>>71045601
>If you want to get into flint knapping, you can make stone points
Stone points is cool and all that but it feels kinda pointless to learn today. If SHTF you can basically go into any old camper, summer house, apartment and pick up a couple of stainless steel spoons, flatten then between two rocks and then put an edge on it. I love the bushcrafting shit but survival is all about going for the easiest and best solution and for centuries to come there be so much scrap to pick of from the old world that people won't even need to search far for basic resources like metal etc.
>>71046420
>You should try and remember names and titles in the future then, if you wish to be believed.
I read way too many papers per year to remember them all by title.
>>71046425
I thought they were all generally awful sources of information.
>>71041654
ABSOLUTELY!
>>71046515
So what is your profession?
Mine is osteology, so I get into contact with a lot of these "what the fuck did stone age man really eat?" types of articles. A long with my own and other's general health status on human remains based on osteological evidence.
Most serious one's are based on isotope analysis.
>>71046586
The first two are quite objective, the third one is blue pilled, fourth one was random.

Used to be into archery when I was in my early teens. Might pick it up again, this thread has reminded me how much I enjoyed it.

>>71046879
>http://www.livescience.com/19770-meat-eating-humans-weaning.html
You should check your sources better. This one says
>A meat-heavy diet lets people wean younger babies and have more offspring, which may have contributed to the population explosion, the researchers say.
No such researchers are cited in that article. Only Elia Psouni, an associate professor at Lund University in Sweden. They're talking about early mankind as well, not modern man.
>"The access to a diet that is rich with animal protein is what makes it possible for that species to [over many generations] shorten the time between births,"
Surely you're not suggesting this to be a good idea in this day and age?
>>71046428
Those would be the trade points that you're talking about. They're not as good as a broadhead with the proper steel, but they'll get the job done.
As for the flintknapping, it's something that I want to learn because my interests are kind of quirky anyway. I think it would be awesome to make a bow from a tree that I cut down, make primitive arrows with stone points and go take a deer or elk.
Fun fact: Properly knapped obsidian is sharper than any steel blade. Stone should not be discounted out of hand, especially if SHTF drives you away from the cities into BFE.
>>71047017
>Color Scientist.
I.. I don't know what to say.
>>71041654
No, I shoot guns like a man
>>71046750
Judging by the Clovis points that archaeologists have found embedded in mammoth bones, I think it's safe to say that 15k years ago, man was eating quite a bit of meat.
>>71041817
Why not both?
>>71047426
I honestly don't know what you mean by this.
>>71047400
I agree, just saying that its not really that relevant anymore. I am going to try some glassknapping later just for fun, i don't have any flint or obsidian at hand.
>I think it would be awesome to make a bow from a tree that I cut down, make primitive arrows with stone points and go take a deer or elk.
Watch this channel, i'll think you like it.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3WJdNxHLnZQ
>Properly knapped obsidian is sharper than any steel blade.
Yep, some doctors even want to use it instead of scalpels. But its not FDA approved so there are just a few vets using them. Apparently they make a much cleaner cut that heals better. Something to keep in mind if you are out innawoods and need to operate operationally on some one that has been gored by a boar or something.
It's definitely approved.
>>71047524
I'm not contesting any of that. I'm contesting eating meat in modern times, as in there here and now. It's an awful industry and not necessary.
Meat eating was a luxury back in the day. Either group bonding experience for men as hunters or regular feasting activity with agriculturalists/pastoralists to hook up or make new friends.
You can't really impress anyone today with fancy meat unless it's stupidly expensive.

I do have a couple of sources of obsidian, but I need to drive for about an hour or so to get to them. There is supposedly an area about an 1 to 1 1/2 hours south that is loaded with very good chert.
>>71048437
Both those were two separate events where someone at an outdoor store were being shown a bow, and the employee handed them the wrong length arrow to test it.

The shaft probably snapped before the arrow left the string.

>>71048949
Don't all compound bows have an arrow shelf anyway? How did the arrow go low enough to get into his hand?
>>71048865
Not normally with carbon fiber shafts. If it does, it is a safe bet that the shaft had been damaged beforehand.
If you are making wooden arrows, you have to worry about the orientation of the grain of the wood. You want to make it so that if it does happen, the shaft goes up instead of down into your hand.
>>71048949
That shaft was shattered before it went into his hand.
>/pol/ approved

I've noticed arrows seem pretty damn expensive.
>>71048865
>No fucking way, does that actually happen?
Yes, that is why you should run your finger across the shaft and check for damages. Its like when your car starts sounding funny, its a problem but it probably won't go from good to shit in an instant.
