Here. Its so stupid it makes me angry.
One one hand, these are the people who are passionate about body autonomy and muh freedom to abort babies whenever I please, then on the other hand if its a Down's Syndrome baby a case should be made to keep them because they are a special little snowflake.
The article makes out like these people live normal lives which is absolute garbage. They fail to mention the fact that the parents are responsible for them until the day they die, most aren't able to live 'normal' lives and need carers, and the million other obvious reasons that warrant abortion to save the trouble of such a massive life changing and terrible thing.
It feels good knowing that accurate testing is available for pregnant women today. One of my somewhat irrational fears (given the odds) is 'what if' my wife/gf had a Down's baby. Makes me anxious jus thinking about it.
For the record, my views on abortion are pro-life, except for disability (like Down's), incest, rape and harm to mother.

This. My mother has worked at a school for the deaf for over a decade now and she also had some crazy stories. There's this surgery, where there's an implant in the inner ear, which is connected to an external hearing aid which can just be removed for showering etc. This implant (Cochlear Implant or CI) can basically turn most deaf persons into fully functional human beings, with hearing almost on par with normal people. Now, some deaf parents have forbade their deaf child to get this surgery, therefore dooming ot to a life in special education etc. Some adults don't get it because they're afraid they're going to be excluded from 'deaf culture' or because they feel being deaf is somehow an advantage.
This world has gone insane.
I feel sorry for the parents and the children who don't hate their parents.
I used to live beside a couple who had a deaf child. They drove through picket lines so they could get a cochlear implant and were called scum for participating in the erasure of "deaf culture".

I went to RIT which was the deaf college capital of the US. Real good friend of mine has cochlear implants so he can hear (he was born deaf). Autism is bullshit. It's a wide spectrum. They tell parents the kid is autistic when they might be VERY low or minor autism. This usually leads to the parent literally isolating the child, taking measures to 'fix' them.
When the autism is minor, like I'm fairly certain it was in me, you just ignore it. Trust me, this works, by high school I was fully functional socially and soon romantically - I didn't turn into an /r9k/ NEET or an Elliot Rodger or a Chris-Chan.
