I started doubting when I read "1.5 million dead" in "Rise and Fall of the Third Reich", which somehow turned into 6 million by 1970, which somehow turned into 12 million by 2000, which somehow turned into 20 million today.
Coincidentally, I just finished "Inside the Third Reich", where Albert Speer claims that most of the top Nazis weren't actually aware of any of the concentration camp atrocities. He even says that Himmler turned the camps over to the Red Cross as early as December 1944 and only briefly alludes to deplorable conditions before then.

I was actually fairly lucky growing up, I went to catholic schools for elementary/middle school and they never really pushed the whole holocaust thing, at most they showed us some fictional drama piece about a jewish family that lived in Germany that managed to escape just fine. In high school we didn't even touch the holocaust in the one year of history classes that even covered that time period, we did however spend a fairly substantial amount of time going over Hitler's economic policies and what they did for Germany.

Which might sound like a lot at first, but compare that to the cost of camp construction, rail transportation, staff and guard requirements during a 2 front war, and food (at least nominal amounts). How could anyone argue that camps were cheaper than ammo?

I don't doubt the holocaust happened as my grandfather nearly died for being an American in occupied Belgium. He bore witness to some gnarly shit.
got the papers to prove this, before/after pics, and the death sentence he got in 1941. (didn't happen for political reasons) He ended up befriending black jewish painter Josef Nassy and for his companionship in the camps, Nassy ended up doing portraits of all his (3) daughters, 2 of which have are waiting to be delivered to the holocaust memorial museum.
I honestly wish I wasn't at uni right now so I show this shit off, but alas it's not to be. I'll try some other time since I imagine it'll get a good reaction out of you guys.
