Think of it this way:
Human beings were never supposed to have access to unlimited information. Imagine a few centuries ago. You had no idea what was happening outside of your local community, and you probably wouldn't have gave a shit, either; and guess what? There was just as much horrible shit going on in the world back then as there is now. Casualties of war are actually at historic lows.
I'm not saying we should remain ignorant or that information is a bad thing, but when it comes down to it, it's only natural to only be concerned with the things that directly affect us or people we know.

I've found the secret is to not think about it. I won't lie, it takes a while to learn how to do. I try not to focus on any one thing in my mind. Just let it wander naturally from subject to subject. Don't try to fight bad thoughts, just let them come and go.
