Seven out of the eleven (63.63%) of the states of the so called Confederate States seceded BEFORE Abraham Lincoln stepped into office. Remember, March 4 was the traditional inauguration day since George Washington . The Confederate rebels left the Union because they lost a legitimate election, an election which Southern states refused to put Abraham Lincoln on the ballot. The last fact hurts the talking point "the South didn't vote for Lincoln, he wasn't their "legitimate" president." The Southern oligarchy prevented a fair and democratic vote. The Civil War is what happens when a legitimate democratic election is not honored.

The South had the 3/5 clause in their favor in the House and the Senate which gives all of the states equal representation. Funny when the House favored the South during the Founding era it was fine and fair but when it switched to the North it was "unfair."
Remember that during the Constitutional Convention the Southern states, the most populist states at the time, wanted not only a proportional lower branch but also a proportional upper branch in the national legislature.
