Why would it be generic, most of the GITS stuff is already as bland as it gets. It's a new, visceral take on the franchise with an actress that is one of the few sub-40 Hollywood starlets who can carry a movie and not be a box office poison. Most of what made GITS successful has nothing to do with story, it was the visuals and the main theme in Japanese that was about a goddess coming down to Earth and it was a song that most of the people who saw the movie didn't understand at all on the lyrical level, but did so on the esoteric one.
