My favorite modern white rock band is probably Radiohead. You should check them out, their music is fun. Listen to OK Computer when you have the chance, it talks about the feelings of having technology become a huge part of your life and people becoming too dependent on it. The album was made in 1997, but the message hurts even deeper today in the world of smartphones and the internet always available to anyone all the time.
