>At a speech last night at the University of Buffalo, Sen. Bernie Sanders said, "Over the years Verizon has made billions of dollars in profit, but in a given year has not paid a nickel in taxes." Sen. Sanders is dead wrong on this issue

>Verizon complies with all tax laws and pays the taxes it owes under the law. In 2015, that amounted to $8.445 billion.
>>
>>70896727
jeez, how the heck does a trillion dollar company only have to pay 8k in taxes? vote for bernie down with the 1%
>>
>>70896727
>net of amounts REFUNDED
very sneaky wording
>>
>>70896840
Do they teach reading comprehension up there, leaf? It means nominal taxes were even higher
>>
>>70896834

>>
>>70896727

You guys realize this just galvanizes his base, right? It's exactly the same as when the MSM shits on Trump.

There's not a Bernie supporter in the world who gives a flying fuck what the CEO of Verizon has to say.
>>
>>70896906
That was said? How do you know this? Why does it matter? Nominal rates are not "income taxes"? They are saying they paid and were returned massive refunds. Nominal means "a rate" or "a number". That is a NET. Or a total. So encompassing everything, before, during, and afterwards. Whoops. Looks like you're the retard

What?
>>
>>70897152
They are saying they were refunded those amounts. They didn't pay diddly after it was all said and done
>>
>>70896840
It's probably about estimated taxes paid were higher than the actual tax amount.
>>
>>70897320
So a shell game of lies basically. I think it means nothing but "here are our refunds. We will call them tax payments and to hell with you for not figuring out our legalese"
>>
>>70897399
I don't know how it works in Canada, but in the US everyone must pay 100% of previous years tax amount in advance, or 90% of the current year's tax in advance. So having refunds aren't abnormal.
>>
>>70897498
Up here taxes come off each cheque and then you do your filing once a year before the end of the first quarter to assess your entire last year. Refund if you paid too much with credits. Another payment if you were under. It doesn't matter when you need to or how much you need to claim. Calling refunds payments is disingenuous

>>
>>70896727
This probably includes the income tax that comes out of your individual paycheck. e.g. your personal taxes.

It also probably includes FCC crap like e-911 and other franchise taxes.

>>
>>70897896
Looks like that's the reason the table only starts in 2013. It's pretty obvious that Verizon is up to tax trickery when they have multiple companies under the Verizon name and their taxes paid somehow doubles in a period of two years
>>
>>70898157
Yeah. They got practically no refunds in 2013 and then it's easy to rake in refunds

I don't understand what "income taxes, net of amounts refunded" means. And for "employment taxes", are they counting the income tax their individual employees have to pay?

I'm not sure who is jewing who here.

We are lucky anyone does business in this fucking country.
Sanders is damn fool that would be the head of another great recession if elected.

These politicians just don't have a damn clue.
>>
>>70896840
Income taxes paid - refunds received = tax net of refund
>>
>>70896727
He was wrong about Verizon, but companies like Google, Facebook, GE, GM, etc, get away with paying next to no taxes because they're butt buddies with the Obama regime. Didn't the Obama family use the fucking Google corporate plane to go on yet another tax-payer funded vacation recently?

The corruption and tax dodging is real, but Bernie's plan to fix it is the opposite of what should be done. The problem is caused by government having too much power, and that they can be bought. Increasing the power of the government to stop tax cheating companies that are only able to get away with cheating because they are in bed with big govt is retarded. More taxes will just rape the small businesses which provide the majority of jobs in this country, and a majority of which the owners are not rich, not even millionaires. That's who gets hurt by Bernie's tax plan, not the rich.

Virtually every major company gets subsidies from state and local governments, directly or indirectly, whenever they build something that creates jobs. At the local level, it's often discounts on property taxes for a certain number of years and special bond financing. At the state level it's usually enterprise zone tax credits and sales tax discounts. Learn what your local economic development agency does and don't be a retard.
>>
>>70901147
so if they charge too much for jobs you may have to starve? wtf?

That's what I said isn't it? If they have too much power its a larger problem when they can be bought so easily. Reagan was interventionist as fuck, hardly an example of small government conservatism.

Not really, we would have to rely on the IRS to be honest.. And since they've basically become a political enforcement arm of the Obama regime along with their tax collecting duties, that is doubtful.

That's not what I said. I clearly said the other part of the problem is how easy it is to buy politicians. If the government is smaller at least they won't have SO MUCH power when they can buy politicians. It's a good step to take on the way to campaign finance reform.

Bernie voters don't care about facts even it slaps them in the face over and over.

They just dismiss them and move on like the kike has never told a lie and is not manipulating them.

Anyway we want to push this fucker through because he is easy pickings and at the same time we want a fissure between Hillary and him so his voters get mad when Hillary closes him out by some backroom deal much like the RNC is trying to do.

It's a screwy system at the local and state (or provincial) level because all of the towns and states are in competition for, at least in the short term, a finite number of jobs. The supply side logic is also that making business less expensive will cause companies to hire more people. The result is that governments hand out sweeteners to preferred industries figuring that the subsidy will be less that the total benefit generated by a new office or plant coming into town. In practice, smart companies hire site selection consultants who then pit locations against each order to extract the maximum amount of revenue. The end result is that there are more jobs for the winners in this competition, but it comes at the expense of other locations and lost tax revenue. Some of the more cynical types refer to this being a prisoner's dilemma situation that actually hurts the economy as a whole because of the distortions created.
