How is it possible that US keeps presenting itself as a model of democracy, yet there's not a single adequate candidate for a president race?

Also, if you look at how the (2) parties are run and how they have a complete strangle hold on our political system.
The parties control us because they present themselves as one of the two options, and they try to present all the hot button issues at two stance dichotomies and then split up those stances between the two parties, trying to pull everyone under one banner or the other and doing their best to keep things fairy balanced.
Then they take all sorts of other backdoor actions (and some disturbingly direct but often unnoticed by the majority) actions against any 3rd parties or independent political candidates.
So as an individual, you are left with two likely options to support.
And again, as an individual seeking to enter the political sphere, you must play the game and toe the line for one party or the other.
You become enmeshed and you are controlled.
If you are an excellent puppet that can sell yourself, then the elites within the party may raise you up as you prove your worth to them.
That might sound like 'tinfoil' and/or 'paranoia' but I'm neither of those things. I hate conspiracy theories and people who talk about them.
This shit is right up front though.
All you have to do is watch, read and listen enough and it's all right in front of you.

It's not. The US is a constitutional representative republic, not a democracy.
Because when FDR realized democracy wouldn't be able to protect itself from the evils of socialism, he drafted a plan for the American public. They would go on dreaming, imagining democracy hadn't been destroyed, until one day, it could be peacefully laid to rest.

the way the media covers presidential elections creates the type of candidates who can survive that kind of a national election. It's a cycle of regression, trading legitimacy for theatrics and hard line manipulation which is more valuable to the press, which makes sleazy unprincipled candidates more successful, until you're left with a situation where only a Cruz or a Hillary can thrive.
