The competition is definitely more fierce since we've admitted the cream of the crop from so many countries. I don't understand what you mean when you say how you're supposed to compete with people who have everything handed to them. The system is a meritocracy so with all these other high performing immigrants we as a nation gain an edge. As individuals we'd have to work harder to keep up with the immigrants with better studying/work habits than us. I don't think we have any less capability, we just need to apply ourselves like some of these guys do.

Nonsense. The Chinese were a nation of uneducated peasants. Through hard work and perseverance they're growing at an unprecedented rate. I'm not denying that intelligence isn't partly hereditary. But I don't believe that the Chinese by nature (all billion of them) are supposed to be smarter than us when it comes to engineering. The problem is that the Chinese people that we do get to see in Canada are either from rich or well educated families, of course they'd have been raised to excel in the maths and sciences. From what I have seen in Canadian schools is a lack of discipline and a weak mathematics curriculum which can both be improved upon. If they can go from an almost completely illiterate country to pumping out millions of engineers then we can certainly improve our standing as well.
About the house plan, I'd be more than willing to do all of that if you promise to cook for me. I really hate cooking.
My main problem isn't any of this immigration stuff though, I just wanted to educate that Spanish poster and the other American posters about what multiculturalism in Canada is like the way I see it.
