Coal power plants are being phased out, it's laughable how bad coal is as a fuel source. In Australia, gas is replacing it since we have a new local source and we're a long way off from getting a nuclear power plant.

Coal will likely get strangled by enviro regs before this happens. Oil and gas turbine plants are the cleaner compromise for petro-based energy sources so oil will still be around.
