Wew, we built this province. Sorry but the oil built it. If the fucking Albertans could have actually invested the money in different sectors so it would have been more diverse than it would have been based. Now it's just riding the oil. Doing nothing else.

It's worse than the Saudis. The Saudi's are actually investing in a shit ton of other stuff. They know where they stand and are trying to invest in different things.

Alberta's a great province, but it's not exactly the best it's even been right now, and it's certainly not the only place in Canada that's any good.
>>
>>70869171
I've lived in a few provinces now and take it easy, they can't help sitting on a huge chunk of the western sedimentary basin. Sure a lot of southern Alberta is windswept badlands but they ranch that, also irrigate and grow some nice crops. They also have a bit of forestry and other mineral wealth up north. They have also installed a huge wind turbine farm. it has some kickass scenery, wild weather, big game hunting, day drives to the rockies and dino bones and shit. It's a wealthy province even without the oil.
Sure some an be ignorant or rough around the edges, but I would rather live with my red neck white brethren than poo or chink, or God forbid, the metro Toronto nigger.

Im sure if northern Ontario was oil sands our debt would be non existent as well

I wonder why, would it have anything to do with american oil companies sucking up that dirty sand.

I've lived in Calgary it was the cleanest city I ever lived in,and besides the odd drunk ass native approaching you for a dart the streets are pretty safe. Althought the whole northeast is muzzies and dope fiends.

About 1/3rd of Calgary and Edmonton are, and those are by far our most diverse areas.

Otherwise it's not too bad.

It's also worth noting that most of our minorities are natives (nothing we can do about them desu) and high output Asians, so it's not that big of a deal.

We have our 95% white rural areas and small towns anyway, so if that's what you want it's np as well.

Their biggest weakness was being extremely shaky and unorganized and they didn't really have any clear plans for anything. They had fucking polls on their website to vote for policies that they should pursue top kek. I mean I voted for them because I hated the other options and was content tossing my vote to signal my disdain, but I can see why they didn't necessarily inspire much confidence in the voter base.

They kind of had tried for a "provincialist", Alberta-first vibe, but without clear policy it was pure thematics.

NDP: the party for edgetards who absolutely hates capitalism, whites, men and Christians. Generally the least popular party and are quite disliked by normies.

Liberals: Our supposed center-left party. Went full SJW retard mode with Trudeau. Most liked party in Canada and the the most successful throughout our history.

PC: Our "conservative" party. Really they've drifted to be basically moderate centrists with no actual desire to reduce immirgation or the size of government or enforce Christian morality.

Bloc Quebecois: Blackmail the government into giving Quebec more handouts by threatening separation. Complete joke of a party.

Green: Another joke of a party. Think of some university campus vegan pacifists who want open borders. That's the green party. They somehow got a seat last election in an area on Vancouver island that has historically voted Conservative. God knows how that happened.
>>
>>70878786

>I don't see why this province gets trashed on all the time.

It doesn't. Nobody here cares, there's not even a friendly rivarly - the only thing close to rivalry in real life would be Ontario v Quebec and even that's tame to anyone not sitting on their borders.

You see a lot of angry Canadian posters on /pol/ hating the country and other provinces because memes have started to blend into their actual thought processes.

Seriously, every thread, it's hilarious how much some of these people despise their own country and people. I don't know where these people actually are in real life, maybe only in rural provinces?

Also

>Natural Beauty of the province

Everywhere is beautiful when untouched by humans, nowhere does pristine nature look bad.
>>
>>70879089
>Handout province.
Come back to the discussion when your province contributes.
>>
>>70879394

But that wasn't a mistake. As a natural resource the value of the industry naturally fluctuates a lot, it benefited us immensely (understatement) while oil was rising and now during a crash we're still much better off than the other provinces.

I don't have much beef, but it kind of pisses me off that people are using this as a chance to shit on our primary industry while ignoring the fact that we're still doing pretty fucking good, and we're probably even better off now mid-crash than we would be had we taken drastic measures to limit oil extraction before.
>>
>>70879545

Alberta's as good as it is because the newfies who aren't deadbeat poverty welfare slaves moved to Alberta to work in the oil industry after codfishing was abolished. -Currently fucking Manitoba, rescinding balance books legislation when they couldn't balance the books.
-The only reason Sask wasn't completely fucked was because the population kept moving to Alberta.
-Fucked Nova Scotia so hard it was the only government in it's history to only last 1 term.
-Now Alberta.

Like seriously, your party is the political equivalent of a home wrecker.

It's like Chicago....but French, and a bit of English, how do English niggers even end up here? How do niggers end up here?? Yea not like Canada at all.

So besides niggers, the people here are by far the meanest and rudest people in North America (I've been to Jew York), and this is supposedly in a country that is known for being friendly

Many awesome things we don't have here like: Swiss Chalet, Red Lobster, Applebee's ect because the names are English.

EVERYTHING is Quebec this and Quebec that, barely any Canadians flags anywhere, just Quebec ones.

There are no Canadian accents here so your ''eh'' joke doesn't apply to me

You can never enter any contests or promotions because they are always ''excluding Quebec'' because they like to have separate laws for that (I know it's not a big deal but it's these little things that count for me)

It's illegal for arcades to give the tickets you redeem for prizes therefore chucky cheese is illegal. This is why I've had a deep seeded hatred for Quebec since I was little. (Again little things)

http://careersinnursing.ca/new-grads-and-job-seekers/find-nursing-job/nursing-job-market

My dad is an RN, my mom is a nurse, my cousin is a nurse, and I'm studying in a university so know the nursing students. Canada has a shortage of nurses, registered nurses are paid very well here for that reason. I'm not shitting you, outside my window I can see the bus stop public service announcement from Ontario Nurses foundation saying "More patients, less Registered Nurses, it doesn't add up". The population is aging here (And everywhere) with the baby-boom, nursing jobs are fucking SKYROCKETING. Not suddenly, it's been a steady growth and now we have a shortage of them.

So that qt3.14 was putting her job applications in mailboxes or papershredders, or just wasn't qualified to hold a nursing position in Canada (and the bar is really fucking low).

If anything, the socialized healthcare is only causing a problem for the opposite end of the spectrum where doctor salaries are capped so we face a shortage as doctoring is more lucrative in the US. But not nurses man, the job market for nurses here is an open door and a red mat

In case you don't really know how Canadian political parties function, the federal NDP and the various provincial NDPs are not bound by the same policies and only share some organizational elements.

The Leap Manifesto would be terrifying if it weren't so ludicrous, and Premier Notley has come out strong over the last week in opposing it. Even if the federal party were to pass it, she is not bound by it and it would likely lead to the provincial wing splitting further from the feds.

Another anon summed it up fairly accurately earlier: The provincial party's strategy is to reinforce the oil sands and lobby hard for a pipeline to tidewater, but not to use the same conservative strategy of trying to shout over other province's. Notley's strategy of shifting away from coal and towards renewable energy while putting an emissions cap on the oil sands - negotiated with the largest oil sands companies - is brilliant, because it removes the same excuse BC and Quebec have been using for years to block our pipelines. At the same time, it makes the economy more resilient to boom and bust cycles - the oil industry is very dependent on upstream employers like petroleum services companies, and THOSE are where the job losses are when prices drop. By investing in renewable energy, the NDP government is creating an alternative for industrial employment when oil is low.

I'm well aware of how it works. I used to work for a federal NDP critic in Ottawa. You tout that time and time again but the public knows that any party that says that is full of shit when they do.
>Premier Notley has come out strong over the last week in opposing it.
She doesn't have a fucking choice. Supporting it would lose any support she had left in Calgary and leave her with two camps left in the province: Provincial employees in Edmonton and Union loyalists. I mean we're not far from that reality, how do you fuck up so hard to drop to third place in the polls in under a year?

>Notley's strategy of shifting away from coal and towards renewable energy while putting an emissions cap on the oil sands - negotiated with the largest oil sands companies - is brilliant
No it's fucking R E T A R D E D. Do you pay your own utilities? Do you have a gas bill? All it's going to do is raise the cost of living, raise inflation because of operational costs to businesses, and kick the poor down at a time when they need it the least. Nothing new for the NDP though.
>By investing in renewable energy, the NDP govern
Renewables are a scam. Make work projects wont fix the economy, neither will raising operational costs for businesses, raising taxes, and taking orders from (((Klein))).
>>
>>70882253

I don't disagree with you on either of those two theses.

Ideally, if the current government's plans pan out, we'll be diversified enough as an economy to no longer be resource dependent, but still be able to reap the benefits of oil when it IS booming.

I've been to Quebec many times you silly goose. You're over-blowing the demographic difference because you're taking memes seriously, there's fewer black people in Quebec than in Ontario, and even here in Ontario it's a stupidly small % all concentrated in urban areas or suburbs.

I don't see how posting videos of street fights is...relevant. Street fights happen everywhere, it's like the one universal constant crime alongside marijuana. And comparing ANYWHERE in Canada to Chiraq? You've lost your nut

> the people here are by far the meanest and rudest people in North America (I've been to Jew York)

Sounds like that's the only place you've been. Travel a bit more, and maybe off the beaten track. If people in Quebec are the biggest dicks, you haven't shaken hands with the real deal dick wranglers of the world.

As for the rest of your points, yeah the french thing is bullshit and the the province has stupidly arbitrary laws. But I don't see any reason to hate growing up there based on the province itself, every complaint you've had is about 1/10 of the way to actually being considered problematic to your life in any capacity.

The problem isn't where you live. I'm not ripping on you, you just need to stop acting like your life has been shitty because of anything other than you.

I know this is true, because

>>70881312
>I live in Quebec and don't speak French.

You grew up somewhere that 80% of people do not speak French, and your autistic ass went all these years not even trying to pick up the language.

Everyone in Canada learns basic french in gradeschool. I hated it. I forgot it as soon as I stopped the class. But how do you go YEARS living in an area where 80% of people speak french at 100% of things are written in French, and not learn it?

You're at fault here. Check yourself fo you wreck yourself
>>
>>70882515

Yes this is what every eco tard says, but the reality is when you stick your grubby socialist hands into economic planning, you shit things up and kill economic efficiency, and when you implement environmental regulations you'll hurt the economy every time. The price of energy is too damn important to mess around with. Doing so when there's no actual good reason to do so is just fucking retarded.
>>
Isn't Canada's leader a fucking dingus?
>>
>>70882473

If you used to work for a federal NDP critic, I would assume you'd have a better grasp of policy than resorting to ad-hominems like "renewables are a scam". According to your assumption that make work projects won't fix the economy, Klein's rampant oil sands development should have failed (whether it succeeded or not is questionable given where we are today). And don't fall back to 'muh free market' - the reason there is consensus WITHIN the oil industry that the Premier's renewable energy plan is solid policy is precisely because it is the way the market is turning. By orienting Alberta to what will be a booming sector of the economy while still maintaining oil production, we're covering our province's bases the next time oil collapses.

Tax rates on businesses and individuals are also significantly lower now than they were under Premier Klein, and rightfully so - the 5% he charged on small business taxes was outrageous, especially given how much money he took out of the economy through austerity.

Do you know how a carbon tax even works??? There is wide consensus amongst economists that it's an ideal tax framework, as its driven by consumption. The one being implemented in AB is revenue neutral, in that if you are using a below average amount of carbon, you will actually be receiving money BACK, rather than paying in to it.

Notley's targets for 2030 is 30% renewables. Couple of sources:

http://www.pv-magazine.com/news/details/beitrag/alberta-sets-30-renewable-energy-goal-by-2030_100022098/#axzz45lEro9ao

Where you might be mixing messages is that the government plans to have zero emissions from coal by 2030. 12 of our 18 plants were already slated to close by 2030 under federal regulation - she just sped up the timetable a little on the remaining six.

No one, certainly not the Premier, is arguing for a restriction of this industry. I think making sure that Alberta has a more diverse and resilient economy will help our province make more money and maintain it's high GDP the next time oil crashes, or when it stops becoming profitable due to market forces.

Do you not realize that one province solely relying on the same industry is bound to be harmed when that industry stops being profitable? If we want to maintain those things that make Alberta great, it is crucial that we plan for the future while investing in oil now.
>>

>Almost 50% of the Alberta oil is foreign owned
>Oil fields employ thousands and thousands of people from outside Alberta, who leave when their contract is done

Shut uppppppp mayne. Non-Albertans are exploiting the oil boom and then clearing out, the oil rights belongs to Canada so you guys are lucky enough to be the ones that collect the tax for the rest of us. You don't make the wealth and make transfers to us, the wealth is the mineral rights and you just happen to be sitting on top of them so it's your provincial government that taxes them.

When the oil industry is done, what the fuck is Alberta going to do? The world is dotted with dead towns being reclaimed because the mineral extraction in the area shut down, and the rest of Canadians know you'll be yelling "muh jobs!" as if anyone couldn't see from a century away that your economy is just an oil boom.

Someone else's personal experience. It's not even mostly Albertan natives in the oil fields, it's people who came for the work and will leave when it's done. It's Canada's wealth, Albertans just somehow got the idea that they've done Canada a favour by existing in the vicinity.

Reminder that Alberta is 1/3 of the provinces whose shapes were decided by "fuck it just split it along the line on the map, nothing important there any-ways".

Agreed, there's more blacks in Ontario but they're scattered more evenly. In Quebec they're basically all in Montreal, the absolute shittiest city on earth.

>But I don't see any reason to hate growing up there based on the province itself, every complaint you've had is about 1/10 of the way to actually being considered problematic to your life in any capacity.

I'm not going to 100% disagree with you on this, it's just for me personally, the things I enjoy are MUCH MUCH harder to enjoy here, but I understand the vast majority of other are not like me.
