Frans Timmermans (who has threatened war on Europe if it doesn't accept diversity, and who wants Holocaust denial criminalised throughout the EU) is the EU Commission's Vice President. He wants open borders, but v4 won't let him get it. He has invited open debate for the refugee crisis, and Soros has responded. I summarize Soros' position:
- 300,000 - 500,000 immigrants should be allowed in annually. This, according to Soros, is a number low enough to make European's happy.
- The EU should spend €30bn per year to implement a new, common EU asylum system; this includes money going to the Middle East, and an EU security force.
- The money the EU gives to the Middle East should not be paid back to the EU. A tax on gasoline, or something similar, could fund this.
- €30bn/year and a system which saves the Schengen area would be less costly than the breakdown of Schengen, which would cost at least €47bn/year.
- €30bn/year compares to an EU GDP of €14.9tn.
- EU nation states won't be allowed to create a Marshall Plan for refugees with deficit spending because Germany won't let them, though Germany wouldn't mind if it were revenue spending
- A new EU tax specifically for refugees could be applied to pay for the refugee crisis.
- More realistically VAT contributions to the EU could be increased to pay for refugees.
- The EU can also borrow from capital markets whilst interest rates are low. Stimulus spending could boost the economy, making it easier to absorb immigrants. Money could be borrowed using the European Financial Stabilization Mechanism and the European Stability Mechanism, which were used to borrow money during the Eurozone crisis, or the Balance of Payments Assistance Facility. The EFSM and the BPAF are backed by the EU budget and hence would not require national parliamentary approval to be used for refugees.
