Former-anorexic here. It's a load of shit. Anorexia causes like .006% of deaths in a year, versus obesity causes 18%.
Very few actually get low enough to kill themselves. That said, it isn't great for your health because a lot of anorexics rush their diets and don't get enough nutrition. If you get skelle slowly it is much healthier, because you can maintain like 1200kcal per day. But it takes forever, so people do like 600-800kcal per day - or even lower - and start have real problems. Getting thin, within reason, isn't dangerous, it's how you get there that matters. Nevertheless gotta stay above a reasonable BMI or your period will shut down and you'll start getting peach fuzz everywhere and other shit.
You can take stuff like Biotin for the hair when restricting heavily, but, only goes so far.

Here's the thing I don't get about anorexia: it can be cured in weeks. Fat loss takes a long time. You have to stay very committed, and usually can only burn around 2 pounds a week. If you are obese and need to lose 50 pounds, it will easily take months. Which is fine - I recommend anyone who is overweight to look into diet and exercise. I did, and lost around 60 pounds over the course of a year. Best decision I've made in my life.
However, that all said, I honestly don't feel any pity for those with anorexia, simply because it would not take long at all to gain the weight. Aside from food obviously being enjoyable to eat, it's incredibly - INCREDIBLY - easy to gain weight. If you made me do it, I estimate that I could gain around 20 pounds a month if I really tried. It's so fucking simple. And most people with anorexia are only a few dozen pounds underweight. They could gain that back in two months flat.
