A takeaway chef wiped his bottom using his hands before preparing food because he does not use toilet paper for 'cultural reasons', a court heard.
Mahbub Chowdhury, 46, from Swindon, was found to have a filthy bottle in the kitchen of Yeahya Flavour of Asia, which inspectors concluded was covered in faecal matter.
When questioned, he said he filled the empty milk bottle with water from the kitchen taps before using it to clean his backside after going to the toilet.
Chowdhury prepared meat and fish curries at the takeaway, which was run out of a rented kitchen at the Nine Elms pub.
The chef, who no longer works at the takeaway, pleaded guilty to ten counts of breaching food hygiene regulations at Swindon Magistrates Court.
He was fined more than £5,000 last year for ten similar offences relating to food hygiene.
Rosie Heath, prosecuting, said environmental health officers who visited the business in May last year found 'very poor standards of hygiene'.
She said: 'In the kitchen under the double sinks [they] found an empty plastic milk bottle which was extremely dirty and was covered with brown fingerprints.
'When asked, Mr Chowdhury explained he filled the bottle with water from the kitchen taps and used it to clean his bottom after visiting the toilet.

In India we don't have sewage treatment plants like you guys do. So, we have to use septic tanks which store all our fecal matter for 1-2 years depending in the size.
This sewage is sold to the local small farmers who can't afford grade quality fertilizer, they use our dried year old fecal matter as fertilizer to grow tomatoes, potatoes, etc.
We sell the fecal matter to them knowing well what they do with it, and as far as small farmers go, literally everyone of them uses their own farm as a toilet, to urinate as well as defecate, so in a way, all food here is grown with human shit anyway so why miss out on the money right?
Most middle-class people who own toilets try to trick themselves into thinking that food from malls is imported and thus, does not contain human fecal matter, they know it does.
Of course people running fast food joints rarely maintain any hygiene at all, that's why they bribe cops on a monthly basis. Whenever a fast food vendor defecates he often just wipes with his hand and rinses his hand in a bucket of water. No soap involved. Some rural ones are known to use charcoal or mud but they are few and far between.
The vendors do not have running water in their stalls and often sell food in reusable metal plates like a restaurant does. They also use glass or steel glass for drinking wager and other beverages. Now these need to be washed after every use, the vendors certainly can't afford disposable plates and most wouldn't bother even if they could cause nobody cares.

They this keep a bucket of water adjacent to their stalls, this bucket is used as the sole means to wash all the utensils. The vendors just wipe the used plates with a cloth, dip it once in the aforementioned bucket and then wipe it once again with a cloth. The plate is ready to serve another customer. The water in the bucket is replaced only after closing shop. The vendors open shop once in the morning for a couple of hours, then close at noon and reopen at evening.
Now this is the same bucket used to wash hands by submerging them in the bucket and rubbing, after defecation. Urination does not warrant a wash. This is the same bucket that they use day and night to wash drinking glasses and eating plates with the SAME water.
Some vendors are too lazy to leave their stalls to go and pee, their solution? Just hold a ladle face down and pee on it! It dampens the sound. Of course you have nothing to worry because they wash the ladle afterwards by dipping it in the same bucket.
Indians in conclusion really do not care about shit in their food. Their food is grown in with shit, their plates are washed with shit, their lives are much shit too.
