People like to hate on Trump, so this election has gotten much more attention than usual. But people are still usually somewhat informed, since it has such a major influence on geopolitics and since we are so Americanized. It's always reported on far more than any other election outside of Sweden.
Americans probably don't care about European politics since there are so many small countries that don't affect them much. People should probably pay more attention to the elections of the larger nations, but not even other Europeans do for the most part.

We have PP (similar to CDU) which is no longer right wing or conservative (26-30%); PSOE (s. SPD) (20%), Podemos (Die Linke) (20%) Ciudadanos (like the liberals) (15%), United Left (Die Linke 2.0) (15%) and regional parties of Catalonia, Basque Country and so on.
PP and Ciudadanos don't have majority. PSOE and PP can't join because even that they are very similar and they are the "establishment" parties they are always attack each other, and in PSOE the know that part of their voters will go to Podemos.PSOE with all the Left and all the catalan separatists. But part of the old guard of PSOE don't want bc of Catalonia and Podemos will eat them.
