What if Trump and Sanders went independent?

So the primaries are a real shit show on both sides. I still don't know what's gonna happen, but it is likely that both Trump and Sanders will lose their respective primaries, through whatever party shenanigans.

Now, what would happen if the two of them ran independent? We've all heard that Trump going indie would simply hand the victory to the Dems, because of the split vote. But what if the Dem vote was split as well, with an indie Bernie? That would be an 'each man for his own' scenario, in which, I think, the establishment candidates would get crushed. Opinions?

It would be a fucking shitfest
>>

I'd love to see that happen.
>>
>>70832965

Sanders independent?

I doubt redditors have this much money.
>>
>>70832965
Republicans would win.
>>
>>70832965
This is what I've been hoping for for a while now.
>>
>>70832965

If both Trump and Sanders ran independent that would be a "the Senate picks the President" scenario because nobody would get the necessary electoral college votes to win outright.
>>
>>70832965

I need to get a few more tins of ammo for my dmr.
>>
Major problem here is money. I doubt even Donald wants to spend THAT much of his own cash. 2012 was widely credited as a total spend of roughly 2.1 billion dollars. That was 4 years ago and this is a completely different political landscape. Its going to take 2-3 billion dollars to have a real shot of winning the White House this year.

Sanders has no hope of raising that kind of money from what is basically college kids. Trump COULD spend that kind of money but will he really spend 33+% of his total worth in a hope and prayer longshot?
>>
>>70836012

Also This

>>70835934

If you dont hit the electoral college vote minimum the Senate votes on the next President and neither Sanders nor Trump would win that vote. They wouldnt get more than maybe a handful of votes in total
>>
>>70835934

I've been masturbating to this.

What you have inferred is what happened with the 1824 presidential election. The Corrupt Bargin.

We all know who won in 1828 though....

Bwah ah ha ha ha ha.

I am ready
>>

As far as I know both Trump and Sanders could afford it so why not.
>>
Bernie is probably establishment. If he wasn't, he would be attacking Hillary instead of Trump because based on policies and campaign, he's closer to Trump than he is to Hillary. She's a complete Wall Street republican neocon.

But maybe he isn't, in that case he's either spineless or he will run independent. If he isn't establishment then there's no way he will get the nomination. If he does, it proves he is establishment.

I hope that he does run independent because Trump and Bernie are the only candidates focusing on the desires of the American people and the only ones with anti-corporatist policies.
>>
>>70835934
I just don't get why don't you guys just discard that electoral college vote bullshit and just go with who gets the most fucking votes...
>>
>>70836528
If it were based on popular vote alone, you'd only really have to campaign in the biggest cities and you could ignore almost everything between the coasts. The current system gives every state a bit of importance rather than a popular vote system in which only like 10 states would matter.
>>
>>70836330
Anymore similar to this?
>>
Here is the real question, what is Trump and Sanders ran together? Would the collective BAwwww of both parties that got screwed over be able to outweigh the establishment at that point?

Imagine it, a nationalist Pres, with a socialist VP. Would it not be perfect?
>>
>>70833126
It's already going to be a shitfest.

I highly doubt Sanders will run independent because Trump or a Republican president would do more damage to his ideals than Hillary.

Trump is indirectly threatening to run independent because the GOP continues to do everything in their power to subtly screw him. Who knows if he'll follow through or the tactic is just designed to strong-arm those traitorous curs into supporting the candidate that the American people voted for.
>>
>>70837130
>threatening to run independent
Sadly that's what the GOP wants. The establishment of both parties agrees on the most important issues like trade, foreign policy, and immigration, while differing on tiny issues that are disproportionally important to voters. There's completely 0 chance that the next president will be an establishment republican so the GOP is getting behind Hillary, the best way to do that is splitting the republicans in half by getting Trump to run independent.
>>
>>70837047

Both would lose a bunch of support, Bernie much more than Trump, due to the opinions of their bases on the other candidate.
>>
>>70837047
what if it was Berni Pres, Trump VP? Would you vote for that?
>>
>>70837420
>Implying brain dead Bernsters care about anything more than "muh free college". Honestly as long as Trump is willing to concede that one single point, 90% of Bernie voters will vote for the Trump/Bernie party at that point.
>>
>>70837506
Honestly, if Trump actually ended up agreeing to that (I'm not sure sure he ever would) I would in heartbeat.
>>
>>70837568
Trump would probably be willing to support merit-based education where the best students get free college. For the most part he probably wants to attack the causes of expensive education rather than just pay for it, I don't even know why it's so expensive though.
>>
>>70832965
I think in that situation, unless the GOP picks Cruz for their nominee (not likely), the GOP would lose almost all of their voters to Trump, and in that situation Trump would stand a pretty good chance against a divided Democrat voter base.
>>
>>70832965
That would be great. If they both did it they both might have a chance.

Of course Bernie would be hated more than Nader if Trump won.

Also, Bernie would probably pull out at the last second if the math appeared to favor a Trump presidency. Trump/the GOP might not extend the same favor to each other
>>
>>70837757
>why it's so expensive though.

Because people will pay it. If you were doing furry commissions on deviantard, and some furry retard wanted to pay you $5,000 to draw a shitty pic of a yiff, what would you do? You'd charge him the 5k.

There are legions of braindead libarts majors who are willing to pay 100k for a piece of toilet paper. Of course colleges are gonna take their money. Every year they raise the price, and every year more and more retards still pay it.

That, my friend, is capitalism.

Cruz is going to lose Cali and New York, I'd be surprised if he got any delegates in either state.

none really where a party fractured this heavily, only other time was when the Populist party ran pretty well in the early 20th century.

Bernie would fade back into obscurity, paid mind only by fringe tumblr dipshits not registered (or old enough) to vote anyway.

Trump will probably go third party when he isn't given the nomination and make it a mercenary group, essentially extorting the two big parties in exchange for not robbing them of votes and destroying them like he destroyed the Republican party.
