Would the North American continent be in better shape today had the Confederacy won the Civil War? It seems as though the North and South might have been better off if they had both adopted more isolationist policies and left each other alone. If the South had won, that might have been the result.

The Civil War lasted almost as long as World War II and it was being fought against a force like a quarter the US's size.

What's that quote from? The Federals were having a difficult time dealing with growing dissent caused by heavy casualties and conscription. Their only European "ally" was Russia. Sure they had industry, but labor was being soaked up in war and CSA raids were fucking up their railways. Not to mention they had several states on lockdown with growing dissent as well. Sharpsburg or Gettysburg would have pulled foreign support and the Federals won those by the skin of their teeth.
