Before 1965 or so, the United States had an immigration policy exactly like what Trump was proposing, and it had been the status quo. It was called nation quotas. We only allowed limited immigration from countries with compatible countries like Western Europe and so on. It created a cohesive society which allowed for immigration but also made them integrate, unlike today where we are totally splintered and divided as a society. If we implemented such a policy back then, it could be implemented without a doubt today. Saying no to every Abdul, Jose and so on at customs is not impossible to implement. China does it. I can't come into China without applying for and getting a valid visa. This is how real countries operate.
