And while that is true that medieval was more GOT than ME, it does not make a point, because it is a fantasy book, a bad one. Low fantasy as a genre is OK, but writing really sucks. I found myself tired of reading "Feast for the crows". It never happened with cool fantasy books.

Also most young people today just refuse to read Tolkien. It's too slow for them, he spends too much time on detail and thoughtfulness. Kids don't have any patience.

The problem is young people refuse to read anything this days. I blame TV and social media for that.
I read entire fantasy and sci-fi sections in my library, most of horror and thriller too. Donated few books as well. Good books are becoming rarer and rarer. This concerns me very much.
Check'd Steven Erikson, read Roger Zelazny if you haven't already. IT is my favourite writer who may be available in english.
