Isn't that right though, just used in the wrong manner? One of the central ideals that America (at least used to) subsists by is of a quasi-darwinian system of various cultures and ideas getting together and the ones with the highest fitness and usage being adapted into the society as a whole.
Diversity is a great thing, in the sense of ideas coming together, the weaker ones being pruned, and the stronger ones being adapted. The only problem is when you segregate the ideologies themselves and claim that borrowing or mixing of ideology is 'appropriation'.
