Cruz is an unknowing patsy, nothing more. He may be the GOPe's friend for the moment in their efforts to stop Trump, but he's still outside the establishment and the moment they no longer need him, they'll throw him under the bus.
The GOPe's game in the convention is clear - stop Trump, stop Cruz, and put an establishment candidate up as the nominee.

It all hinges on a blowout in New York, leading to a huge surge across the North East and finishing strong in California.
