>Climate change doesn't exist

http://www.theguardian.com/environment/climate-consensus-97-per-cent/2016/mar/02/climate-scientists-worry-about-the-costs-of-sea-level-rise

>For the first time we derive general relations on how damage from coastal floods increases with sea level rise and on how the damage decreases with the height of hypothetical protection measures such as sea walls. The results are based on mathematical proofs exploring extreme value statistics and are of universal validity. We conclude that the expected annual damage always, i.e. for an arbitrary case study, increases faster than the sea level itself.

>>
>>70791811
False, it is a fraud of epic proportions, we are already well into the trillions but I hope sea levels rise anyway, they can fluctuate wildly over geological time. With the last ice age only 20k years ago, a blip in geological time, a substantial rise is possible, as is another ice age.

Being silly apes that only live 80 years or so, it is all quite meaningless except the part about a pseudo global government taking your fossil fuels away when you live in a fucking oil age! It is for all intensive purposes, a declaration of war by global government against the individual, a war against your future, standard of living and ability to survive.
>>
>>70792272
It's simple. Just build a wall around your country to keep the sea out.
>>
>>70791507
rising sea levels has just about as much to do with climate change than it does with plate tectonics. look at Hawaii, the east most island is slowly sinking into the water, where as the east most is gaining in land mass. but gee, lets just ignore all the factors involved and focus on one, that will surely fix the unfix-able problem.

why not just do what Human's do best, adapt
>>
>>70792459

We can't fix climate change so long as India and China exist.

The only real dispute is how effective anti-climate change measures actually are, and how fast climate change is going to happen. But people still want to argue that climate change isn't happening at all, or that humans have no impact on the environment.

If you really believe in climate change....
Then buy some future beach from property and laugh your way to the future.
What's the big problem? Climate change is real, but it's happened in the past and it will happen in the future. Sea levels are not constant, they've been lower and they've been higher.
Show me one single solution which reverses climate change. You can't. It doesn't exist.
>>
>>70793862
That's why people don't even want to argue with you.

right now we have the left, and they're going, man, climate change caused by greenhouse gases like co2 and methane is really bad and we will get a ton of return on investment if we reduce that

The right goes, no, you're overblowing the effects of that, and the measures you're proposing are more effort then they're worth. They'll point out that some climate scientists aren't intellectually honest and some of the "evidence" of climate change is actually due to factors like coastal erosion.

Then there is the HURR DURR HUMANS DON'T IMPACT THE ENVIRONMENT wing that is still stuck in a 2000-era bush/oil/gas bootlicker mindset and are still talking about shit like sunspots that have long failed to account for all of global warming.

Like seriously here in BC we absolutely destroyed our concrete industry with a carbon tax. While the carbon tax wasn't impactful for all industries one as energy intensive as concrete production was hit hard, while imported concrete didn't have to suffer from the tax, which ended up murdering our industry.

I try to explain to people "oh we shouldn't apply carbon taxes to industries like the concrete industry because it ends up just causing people to buy from countries that are even more environmentally unfriendly than Canada you fucking lefttards" but then someone like you chips in after and goes "YEAH - AND GLOBAL WARMING HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH HUMANS" and everything I say gets discredited by retards. I get lumped in with fucking oil/gas bootlickers.

Climate change is just part of nature, as people in this thread are saying. In this case, nature has produced a species known as humans that have accelerated climate change by expelling greenhouse gases into the air. Climate change in the past has happened due to other natural phenomena, but this is what is happening this time.

Like do you guys not understand you guys make the right look fucking retarded when you pretend humans aren't impacting the environment?

that's a brilliant scientific conclusion, Health Pack.
I can't believe the scientists didn't come up with that one: ice ages! Yes, truly since it was a different temperature before, no evidence that implicates Humans is relevant.
>>
>>70794625
when they say "climate change doesnt exist" they mean "humans are not affecting climate change"
>>
You couldn’t get 97% of Italians to agree the Pope is Catholic.

Anyone who believes that 97% of scientists think human activity is the cause of global warming appears to be ignorant of the OISM Petition, in which more than 30,000 American scientists co-signed a statement saying that more CO2 is harmless, and beneficial to the biosphere.

There is nothing comparable from the climate alarmist crowd, whose numbers are much smaller than generally assumed.
>>
>>70794344
There is nothing we can really do about it. However if the entire world enacts a small amount of taxation on carbon emissions we can make it unprofitable to cause a lot of carbon emissions to make a very small amount of money. In other words, we make people pay for a fraction of the financial costs in the future that they're causing.

One needs to be very careful about how one impliment something like this because you can end up shutting down energy-intensive industry and cause customers to buy from countries with more lax environmental standards.

Nuclear and alternative energy sources produce less carbon emissions than oil/gas.

There is some sense in incentivizing technologies that produce less carbon emissions but I feel we're already doing enough of that.
>>
>>70794868
My argument isn't that humans have no impact with greenhouse gases, but rather that we haven't discerned the primary factor. Should humans still attempt to reduce greenhouse gases? Probably. Do I think we are the primary factor? No. How has volcanic activity/sun activity changed over the past time? How much of it has been due to deforestation and damage to ocean flora? I haven't seen anyone explain the impact of those so I am skeptical.
>>
>>70791656
>hurdurr the coastline doesnt matter

The people there may be fucking retarded, but its a danger to our shipping logistics, which essentially is the groundwork of the US economy.

Oh no people have to move inland. Too bad. Wouldnt kenysians love this anyhow look at all the new buildings/broken windows that will have be replaced by the move inland!
>>
>>70791811
>it has to be one way or the other

Youre just as bad as the people claiming its 100% man made. The fact of the matter is that this is a natural process as we've been coming out of an ice age, but that doesnt change the fact that we're putting chemicals into the atmosphere and ocean which speed up what is a natural process. What do you think happens to all the carbon we put up in the air? It gets mixed into the atmosphere, and in some cases finds its way onto ice sheets, which can darken the ice increasing the temperature upwards of 10 degrees f. Carbon is not something you want in your atmosphere in high ammounts retards, it can and will effect the current weather and in the long term the over all climate.
>>
>>70794868
Taxing business's is fucking retarded, and will just piss people off, and rightly so. Besides china is the real problem. The correct approach is to look towards innovative technologies, maybe not throw money at everything but at least leave the door open for an alternative power source.

>>
>>70796301
I should note that chinas industry is indeed the problem as they do not give a fuck about environmental concerns.

However, first world countries do emit more carbon per capita largely because a first world standard of living is very high carbon.

I actually think taxation is the solution IF WE CAN GET EVERYBODY ONBOARD because it disincentivizes creating a lot of carbon emissions for very small gains in profitability. As it is now companies and individuals that blow CO2 and methane and such into the air are essentially pushing the costs of their business onto future generations, and really don't have to worry about those future costs. We need to make it so people feel a fraction of the impact of the greenhouse gases they're putting into the air immediately. However, the bigger the tax gets the more diminishing the returns.

Make these taxes revenue neutral to make it easier for the right to swallow the bitter pill of government getting bigger.

Then invest a small amount of money into tech that will reduce carbon emissions.

You can bring some in safely if you can get them to assimilate, but they don't want to assimilate because they think their barbaric culture is acceptable and refuse to think otherwise. Partly because of Saudi funded extremism and partly because of the lack of a strong secular movement like Christianity had.

Also you aren't helping them if they start attacking people and the government then bombs them. That only perpetuates the problem and causes the rapefugees in Canada and all across the west to be in danger.
>>
>>70800659
Well I'm not really expecting most of them to assimiliate, I'm expecting most of their asses to get kicked out and sent back to Syria once Assad finishes kicking everyones asses. Taking in rapefugees is about charity, not about helping Canada. Some will stay of course but a lot won't.

I don't agree that taking in refugees doesn't help refugees. The consequence to a bunch of rapefugees bombing the people and government is that we stop taking them in, if we don't take them in in the first place then they suffer those consequences before they even do anything.

If they blow their chance to live in a safe first world country fuck them honestly. If things get out of hand I'll admit it was a bad idea.

I would argue that the consequence of rapefugees bombing people isn't just them not being let in, but if you look at some of the back lash across europe, especially the French government bombings (Which aren't equal to what I am about to bring up), and the people of Europe becoming significantly more anti-muslim and militaristic towards the middle east, the consequences clearly aren't worth it.

Deserts are actually expanding.
Most deserts are equatorial, and the way major air cells flow, water is typically moved from the equator to the poles. When the E/I balance is perturbed by increases in air and water temperature, it leads to more water being transported away from the equator, which increases desertification through water shortage.

The damage to ocean flora at least is largely a result of ocean acidification, which occurs due to greater atmospheric CO2 concentrations. Either way, these are both anthropogenic factors.

The Yukon has also had a unprecedented winter and spring. We broke high temperature records by about 10 degrees for a few days in March, and just about every day this winter has been several degrees above the normal high temperature.
Of course, we have that Pacific high ridge that's been tootling around for a few years.

You know how Dubai gets to have its islands without the currents smashing them to bits? We built a wall around them, just like how we sealed off a portion of the Zuiderzee for reclamation purposes.

Why the fuck are all these articles put out like I immediately need to drop all my shit that I'm doing and save the planet? This isn't my concern, nor should be. If this is such a major problem, then the government needs to handle it, but enough about bothering me with it.

He's right though.
I remember seeing him in Sydney not long after this.
He justified by saying certain areas of the world are just not conducive to sustaining hugely inflated numbers of human life.
He then went on to say the genetically engineered Tasmanian salmon everyone was eating was invented in Canada and full of antibiotics and toxins and was extremely unhealthy

Finally, a grand bastion of climate knowledge has come unto the boards, to give to us their great, well sourced, learned dissertation!

Or maybe desert areas have existed that way (in cycles) for tens of thousands of years at the least, and you're a fucking dipshit.

You mean the people whose whole field of study and research grant money that depends of alarmist shit going on are saying something alarming is going to happen?

NO

WAY

:O :O :O

I read a weather forum sometimes where most of the posters are meteorologists and atmospheric scientists with post graduate qualifications and/or PhD's in their respective fields. They have an entire section of the forum dedicated to climate change and they argue about it all the time.

So no, evidently the science is not settled.

Reminder that atmospheric scientists are the only people on the planet truly qualified to make a determination about this issue.

By that logic, anti-vaxxers also have legitimacy because I'm sure there's forums on the web that have sections dedicated to whether or not they cause autism.
>>
>>70791507
They are worried about money that's for sure, the funding they need to justify their existence through fear mongering. No "climate scientist" projections have come even remotely true.

In my opinion, Global Warming is real, but it cannot be stopped.

Simply reducing emissions won't work, because of the damage already done.

You'd have to completely shut down all human industry and then billions would starve, which would be really cool.

>>Climate change doesn't exist
o rly man
it went from man made warming, to warming, to cooling, to warming again, to change, and now the sea levels

the climate changes yes.
What is controversial is the political decisions in response to those changes and possible sharlatans who try to make money with this invisible enemy.
not the climate.

>>
>>70808352
Sure thing, Pajeet. Just don't blame anyone but yourself when your 100,000,000 of your countrymen become desperate refugees because you couldn't see the writing on the wall and let climate change happen.
>>
The huge problem with the whole climate change thing is that people have the completely wrong idea of what climate change actually is. I agree entirely that it is laughable how the predictions have turned out, but it's just as laughable to believe that climate change does not exist.

As the simplest way to explain this, think of your car. Your car uses gasoline that was basically distilled from oil, which was "drilled" from a reservoir under the Earth's surface. This oil is the remains of carbon based lifeforms that have through millions of years became the oil and coal that we burn for energy.

When you burn oil, gasoline, etc. you are releasing carbon that had been stored in the Earth, into the atmosphere. It is literally changing the composition of the atmosphere. And when the composition changes, the climate changes. Were it not for humanity's desire of these energy sources, this carbon would stay trapped in the Earth.

What exact changes that would come are not possible to define, however we are lucky enough to live on a planet that is habitable for life, so why should we be performing acts that could change that? The answer is that this is the product of progress.
>>
>>70808949
except carbon is fucking irrelevant to temperature of the earth
>>
>>70808880
I don't know how all you guys on pol picture us Indians in your minds but we're not Africa tier pathetic you know
>>
>>70801100
Too bad it's mostly bullshit, like psychology, or investment banking. Sure, there are a few people with actual methodology and proof, but most of it is literal bull shit.
>>
>>70809487
Again proving the point that people don't understand what climate change is. When sunlight hits the earth, a large portion of it is turned into infrared radiation (heat). When the heat leaves the Earth, parts of it get trapped by molecules in out atmosphere (why really hot humid days are worse than really hot dry days). Carbon in its common form in the atmosphere of CO2 absorbs a lot of this heat. The heat that is absorbed is emitted in every direction (some away from the Earth, some back towards the Earth) and that which is radiated back towards Earth must be reflected off the surface again (raising what we consider temperature), and can then also be captured by CO2 molecules again, and on and on.

We are releasing more carbon into the atmosphere. More carbon means more infrared radiation is absorbed on the way out by our atmosphere. This means that more infrared radiation is reemitted back towards the surface increasing temperatures.
