You do realize that the only reason we don't adopt metric is because it pisses everybody off so much, right?

The only reason why americans use imperial is too look 'different'. It doesn't make sense.

Metric sysytem is the simplest thing in the world.

The metric system is the reddit of measurements. Pseudo-intellectual, pretentious, and thinks it's more enlightened than it it. Point out to a metric fanboy that Celsius is no more scientific a way of measuring than Farenheit, which is more convenient and practical, and they counter with Kelvin. Because it's not like they can do the exact same thing to Fahrenheit, is it? It's not like you simple moved the fucking scale and declared it "smarter"? Oh wait, thats literally all it is.

Also, the SI unit of the gram is a "millikilogram". Fucking geniuses made that one
>>
>>70788625
Yep. /m/d/y/ master race. It's the most commonly used here, but sometimes we use /d/m/y/ or even /y/m/d/. Only country in the world to officially use 3 different date abbreviations.

Farenheit is useful for the human body. above 100 is a fever. Also every 10's place is obviously distinct.

100 Really fucking hot
90 sweaty
80 warm
70 perfect
60 cool
50 chilly
40 cold
30 pretty cold
20 fuck
10 fuuck
0 fuuuuuuuuuuuck
-10 fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck

celsius is pretty stupid desu. rest of it makes sense but Fahrenheit is actually better
0 degrees = cold as fuck
100 degrees = hot as fuck
then you just need to remember 32 degrees is freezing
way easier scale because it's more precise and the tens numbers are the ones that are bearable temperatures for humans

12, 16, 1760, 5280, etc aren't random numbers. They were chosen to be highly divisible. For example, 1/2 of a mile, 1/3 of a mile, 1/4 of a mile, 1/5, 1/6, 1/8, 1/10, 1/11, 1/12, 1/15, and 1/16 of a mile are all round numbers of feet (no decimals). You can't say the same for 1000 m/ 1km. In this way the imperial units are pretty handy for quick computations in your head.

But obviously for scientific work, where you need to compare orders of magnitude and so on, the metric units are much more convenient.

Why are people so autistic about this? Use whichever units are most convenient and appropriate given (1) the context of what you're talking about and (2) the audience and what they are familiar with.

im with you on the metric system/celcius but month/day/year is a better system. having the numbers ascend is a much simpler concept to internalize 5/22/1997 looks much better than 22/5/1997

>Use whichever units are most convenient and appropriate given (1) the context of what you're talking about and (2) the audience and what they are familiar with.
fucking thank you
>>
Why would you use DD-MM-YYYY?
What benefit does it have over YYYY-MM-DD?
In before "I DON'T NEED TO KNOW THE YEAR FIRST DURRR". If you don't need to know the year first then why are you even bothering with a year at all?
>>
>>70789436
In the scientific field they use metric correct? I was taught metric in school and it makes bounds more sense then the stupid imperial system.
>>
>>70790106
NASA used imperial at the time of the moon landing.
>>
>>70789526
Multiply 30 feet by 1/16 miles. Oh, wait. How many square feets is it? Good. Now how many square miles is it is? Oh, wait.

In metric it is 10x100=1000 sq meters. Sq kilometers? Just move decimal point six times. 0.001 Sq kilometers. So comfy, because our enumeration system has base of 10. Not 3, 4, 12 or 1760.

But why are talking about it anyway? Multiplication or square is too much for fatburgers they can barely add twelve apples to a dozen.
>>
>>70790397
I agree that the imperial system is stupid but I can't take you seriously when you have English like that.
>>
>>70789436

>In the scientific field they use metric correct?
Not necessarily. In particle physics we use Planck units: mass and energy are measured in eV, and length and time are measured in 1/eV.

(eV = electron volt = some number of joules = SI unit of energy).

So, basically, a totally butchered version of SI.

Other fields of science have their own characteristic units, which in many cases are different from the SI "metric" units.
>>
>>70790664
Thanks for the explanation.
>>
>>70790397
When you start talking about area no one uses square miles.
It's square feet or acres.

sq miles times 640.
Once you get to that size it's literally just for dick waving purposes. Precision is secondary to sense of scale when you're talking about square miles.

>sq miles times 640.
Now multiply 268581 by 640 or fuck. This is the problem. Our and yours positional number system is based around 10. Not 640. Fucking disaster.

Metric system. If you need to move to next area unit, hectare you need multiply km2 by 100. Or wait it is our number system base 10 multiplied by 10 again. You just move decimal points two times here is your 2685100 hectares. Do you see the calculation magic when your physical units have the same consistent (not 12 here 5280 there ) base of 10 same as you positional number system?

>>
>>70791938
If you use Celsius for the weather, then you will almost certainly have to use negative numbers sometimes because 0 isn't that cold, and you will almost certainly not use anything about 50. However, if you use Fahrenheit, you will generally use the full range 0 to 100 evenly, and very rarely need to go outside it. In this respect, F is more ergonomic than C.
