it's because most people go into discussions under the assumption that the other person/audience has the prerequisite background information that helps to inform their opinions. /pol/ isn't for the uninitiated. There are certain assumptions most people take to be true that form the basis of arguments. It's frivolous to explain these in every response. I don't have to remind people that lava is hot before I tell them that I try to avoid falling in it.
