It depends on where you're raising the animals. Here in Alberta, most of the cattle is raised on natural grasslands so the environmental impact isn't as great as say Brazil, where rain forests are being burned down to be turned into soybean farms for animal feed.

The amount of agriculture required to sustain an all plant diet is insane and supremely damaging to the environment... The caloric benefit is nowhere near that of meat and thus more damage to the planet must be done in order to support it.

as normal vegans fail at science. You know why animals emit greenhouse grass? Because grass and hay store large amounts of greenhouse grass.
So a pasture with animals on it is creating a cycle of locking up carbon and releasing it back in smaller amounts. It is an environmental net benefit.
So if you turn an animal pasture into a corn field you have a major loss of the best greenhouse grass remover on the planet.
