I think american cuisine is underrated. Like german cuisine btw. I think americans know how to make things tasty and I really like their food. It's not fine, like japanese food for example (really most asian cuisine) because it is heavy but it's really good.

I spent quite a bit of time in Japan, the food can be absolutely exquisite. It can also be an Asian version of take-away, but even that seems much tastier and healthier than take-out food in North America.
Of the few places I've been - Japan, UK/Ireland, Italy, Slovenia, US and Canada, Japanese food was easily my personal favourite.

There are different tiers of American food. The whole world knows about our shitty fast food. And it is shitty. Then you can get some more local places that are kind of quasi fast food, but they use real ingredients. They're great for when you don't have enough time.
Then we have regional cuisine that can be to die for. I'm in the Southwest, and New Mexican food is fucking awesome. We can't forget about Cajun food either. I love that stuff.
Then there is American style BBQ. There are also regional styles of that, and pitmasters can get quite defensive over which one is better. Properly done BBQ is tough to beat.

I don't see how people can like fish and chips. In my experience, the chips are always cold, thin and incredibly greasy. Makes me feel sick just thinking about them. Whenever I've had fish and chips on holiday in Cornwall or Devon they've been nice, though.
