Technically you can serve more than 2 terms, but traditionally 2 is the max as a check on the commander-in-chief's power.

Roosevelt saved american capitalism.
Americans who hate him here fail to realize that Roosevelts main competitor was not Ron Paulite libertarian or Trumplike nationalist conservative, but literal communists like Huey Long. Socialist party in america had %30ish support during 30's. 30 percent.

Now sensible ones would discard "fuck dat islamic gommanist" type ad-homs and attack his policies. They might be right in that his policies might have hurt America in the long term. Maybe he just prolonged the decline who knows. But he saved the day and eventually the century.

FDR, like his distant Republican cousin Theodore was all about changing America to make it better. They both had strong tendencies to make the executive branch even more powerful, but then again, sometimes a monarch knows better than the people underneath. Both loved America more than 99% of Americans.

FDR was a fucking cripple and became president. You can't beat the level of drive. Most of his policies were radical, but at least he tried to make things better. Can't say the same of a lot of politicians in the last several decades.

Which happened AFTER Roosevelt served 4 terms dumbass. 2 terms was considered tradition because it was how many terms Washington decided to serve as president. You had a few people, including Theodore Roosevelt try to run for at third term though.

But yeah, his policies helped America tank the Great Depression, there was a double dip because conservative Dems and Republicans forced Roosevelt to scale back his programs. Full recovery didn't happen until the war, but it was a shitload better than the Republican's alternative of 'Let the corporations and rich people handle it.'

>>70738906
They think because he strong armed corporations who were fucking over America as opposed to working for the greater good during the circumstances, he was a fascist.

>Lee E. Ohanian
This guy continues to ignore that one of the major causes of the Great Depression was overproduction and first total collapse of the stock market that was invested in by a majority of Americans which wiped out the middle class. You aren't going to recover from the latter overnight.

Roosevelt was a moderate populist socialist from an internationalist corproatist family. He was involved with all of the secret societies but he genuinely believed in populist ideals.

He was in some ways, a left wing Trump. He was called a "Traitor to his class" and only one year into his presidency JP Morgan was caught trying to violently overthrow him (google Smedley Butler for that story).

He allied with the Soviet Union and the British Empire in world war two, and the three superpowers combined after the war into the United Nations Proto-world order government that would have developed into a world socialist state had the Cold War not been inflamed.

Truman dropped the bombs, but yeah the whole push back across the pacific was pretty great and far more impressive than the nukes.

>>70740331
I was going to mention the attempted coup, but there was never any solid proof. More than that the wealthy suddenly decided to go along with Roosevelt.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Truman only talked to Roosevelt twice actually and he knew nothing about the Manhattan Project. All things considered, Truman just pushed the button.

>even if those policies made things worse, he tried!

why do we let this pass?

This is what is wrong with most liberal and conservatives; no president is perfect, so stop acting like if you pick Trump, Clinton, Obama, what have you that everything is going to be great and perfect.

FDR did a lot of great things, but he fucked up others. He grabbed absolute power because he tried to make America literally great. More than most presidents honestly. It makes him human that he was wrong about other things. American politics has polarized us so much that we think every politician we don't like is the worst evil since Hitler times 12 but the politician we like is the best.
