I'm asking because the top military guys (Nimitz, Lemay, MacArthur, Stimson) all agreed that at minimum there would be 100,000 American casualties (that's dead and wounded), with a much larger number of Japanese dead. Choosing between 100,000 Americans and 200,000 Japanese wouldn't exactly be a tough decision even today, let alone back in the 1940s when a significant number of Americans literally wanted to exterminate the Japanese.
