Correct tooth placement.
>>70704514
It's now generally accepted that American English is closer to how the language sounded before they split, so:
1) British pronunciation drifted to what it is now, while conversely
2) American spelling drifted to what it is now
We have new york accents, chicago accents, california accents, minnesota accents, texas accents, do brits have any local accents?

Wow. You have no idea how radically different accents can be in the UK. It's at the point where some Englishmen living 100 km apart can meet and not understand each other. Listening to Scouse, Geordie, Mancunian, Liverpudlian and Glaswegian, you'd think they were all from different parts of the world. America has nothing on the UK when it comes to linguistic diversity. It's nothing to be proud (or ashamed) of, but it's definitely strange.

Iron
Salmon
Caramel
Fire
Water
New Orleans
Pecan
Both

Probably
Alabama

>>70709039

no more new than british accents, american accents for the most part descend from british accents. the british colonists didn't just get off the boat and start speaking in a new accent. pronunciations and language change over centuries, this includes in the british isles.
>>70709205
It's because they're melbourne trash.
>>70709328
Also my point. Americans came into this thread and started saying "our accents are the real English accents".
>>70708807
Sort of but not really
There are supposedly 3 accents of Australia but unless you take them to the extreme they wouldn't be noticeable by anyone but an Australian. For example, compare Steve Irwin, Hugh Jackman and Malcolm Turnbull - they're the 3 different types of Australian accent, and they're not geographic, they're socioeconomic. Additionally, people who live in rural Western Australia sound more like people from rural New South Wales than they do people from Perth and the people of Perth sound more like Sydney than they do people from rural New South Wales, despite Sydney and Perth being 3300 kilometres away.
That being said there are stereotypes that people from Queensland sound 'more bogan' and people from South Australia sound 'more posh'. That is true, but to an extremely small extent. It's mostly just a stereotype.
>>70709205
It's just the contrast. If you ever leave Australia for several months on holidays or whatever, when you come back you'll notice just how strong the accent is.
>>70704514
You have many accents...so do we
listen to someone from bristol and then liverpool for example.
>>70709392
anyone who makes that claim is a fucking retard. all accents change over time, none remain exactly the same. both british accents and american accents have drifted from what they were when the colony was first established.

Asian accents don't survive past 1st generation. They have not affected much of the dialect here in the states. Obviously different European accents developed and are more iconic. Hispanic Cubans have a certain way of talking j Florida and Mexican people usually just speak with a Spanish accent or a generic North American accent. Then you have your negro dialects. They have their own way of saying words as well.
