Each state is a little different but the gist of it is that the state has a set number of delegates. So the amount of people who vote for the candidate is represented by a number of delegates. Say you have a state of 20 people. Small I know but stick with me. 15 vote trump and 5 vote Cruze. Then trump gets 2 of those delegates to vote for him and Cruz gets one.
This is where things get weird. Some states have this thing where the candidate has to get a majority of the delegates to lock their vote down or the delegates get to vote for whoever they want. Basically going Fuck off to the people's votes. So even if the state has a lot of people wanting trump to win if there's not a large majority the delegates can say these people are too stupid and indecisive to know what's best so we'll decide for them.
Unfortunately these are all career politicians who covet money like a Jew, no offense, and do what their party wants which is what the party's corporate overlords want. Hence them saying well Cruze is better even if he's not winning so well just vote him even though trump is the majority winner.
