This actually did have a pretty signifigant impact. The Ottomans economic niche was their location, and controlling the trade routes to India and China. Once the europeans had ships capable of sailing around Africa, or to the Americas, they began to lose their economic monopoly. It's also important to note that previously one of the major reasons for the European powers to treat with the Ottomans was to secure their economic interests, so the collapse of this also gutted their diplomatic efforts as well.

Actual reason - the Ottoman fiscal system was organized in a semi-feudal way. In exchange for owning an estate you were responsible for providing troops, later remitted to a fixed cash payment. Over time, inflation made the cash payments worth less and less. Additionally, certain nobles could get hereditary tax exemptions for their services to the sultan; and you could put your lands in trust with a tax-exempt religious foundation while still keeping control of the income in your family. (Think Scientology.) So the Ottoman fiscal apparatus was fucked.
People are making EU jokes and talking about technology - the Ottomans were way behind Europe in tech already in 1550, and they were falling further behind every year, but the fact is that the Ottoman Empire fell apart from internal decay long before there was any real European attempt to conquer the now-autonomous parts of the former Empire. In fact, post-1750 the Ottomans were being propped up by European powers who wanted to stick it to Russia or Austria.

It was basically colonized by Greeks at that point. Just as Egypt was Coptic. There has been a slow-mo genocide up to the point where the Copts are, I think, only 5% of the population of Egypt. well, i've studied the ottoman crimean peninsula extensively (i wrote a history paper on trade in the port city of kaffa). one thing to consider is the ottoman empire was not a caliphate, and thus other muslim entities did not give a fuck about the ottoman empire. and so, along the nothern black sea the ottoman empire lost possessions because other muslims were raiding and taking possession of ottoman territories. the ottoman empire did not have the resources to hold onto what is now the ukraine.
