Other soldier here. In oif 1 I got to go to Kandahar, was 63b but I went on every fucking patrol because I was in an infantry unit. Basically after like 1930 if it moved and I could see it, I lit it up, it was a good time to be alive.
Some interesting stories: once I was on guard duty, and a (probably) deaf Iraqi contractor got fucking smoked at our gate because he wouldn't look up at us. I mean we learned who he was, posthumously, but oh well
Another time I was on a patrol where we found an exploded mansion, right? Dude was having a party and I guess there was someone making bombs in the basement, whatever. There was something moving off to one side of the building and we were about to fire, but it was a fucking dog with some sand niggers hand in his mouth. I did clinical rotations at the VA too, I got to talk with vietnam vets too. The war was far worse for them, but not as many killed themselves.
Im not counting them drinking themselves to death as a cause. But the only thing different was that they cared more about each other.
Some people have killed themselves from the war, PTSD and manic episodes do happen.
