Because people subconsciously place themselves into other people's positions, so when a white guy sees a picture of a white guy with a white girl, he feels "normal". However, when the same white guy sees the same white girl with a black guy, he feels anything but "normal".
It probably has to do with people assuming that the white girl only likes black guys/non-whites, therefore the white guy feels like he will never have a chance.
