Also I strongly suggest you look into the "melting pots" of culture we have here in Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia, Macedonia and Montenegro... The diversity is hardly comparable to the US, and similarities are usually spot on. Slovenia is doing great when it comes to tourism and economy, compared to the rest, but culturally, none of the ex-yu countries are something to sneeze at. Music, acting, literature, tradition, cuisine. We are more similar to the German tribes, and look how well it worked out for them, uniting their cultures. Some local traditions remain but the global culture adopted the best from each tribe.
