I spent four months last year in the Balkans, spent a couple weeks everywhere but Slovenia. Albania is severely underrated.
The food is good, the people are that excellent kind of bluntly honest that feels great when you're a foreigner, and even though it's dirty and poor, it's never so shitty that you want to leave. The cafes don't recycle their grounds like they do in Greece, either.
Also the teenager who sold me weed gave me an extensive history of the Kosovo conflict, and that was really cool.
