It really depends on the severity to know if someone with autistim is salvageable or not.
I was diagnosed with Asperger's (which is now on the autism 'spectrum') when I was 13. I was a real mess when I was younger, but maturity and dedication to therapy and self improvement have mostly straightened me out to where I'd have to tell someone for them to know.
During that journey, I went to alot of different groups and met alot of kids who were much worse off than I was. It served to give me perspective on how blessed I am not to be totally fucked by my disability like some of these young adults were.
I don't necessarily think euthanization is the answer, I certainly would have been on the list if that were the case, and I made myself a functional member of society in the end.
However I do think that using 'autism' as a general term for a wide range of different disorders is a problem. It's a lazy solution to diagnosing a wide range of disorders that range from a milder case of Asperger's like mine and cases where the person can't even speak and needs constant live-in support to function.

They didn't tell me. No meds. They just let me develop.
By High School I functioned completely normally. Had no issue with friends or relationships.
It must of been very minor but I never knew until later in life and it only gave me trouble in my elementary years. Middle and High School and everything after that was fine.
