The current anti-immigration movements are a phenomenon in east Germany.
That's because the majority of the population in the east has German-Slavic bloodlines, going back hundreds of years. Yes, you heard me. They are different from the folk in the west.
You should not forget, that Germany was the hotbed for the socialistic movement, starting in the the mid 18th century. We shall not forget the fact, that half of the country was under communistic rule for more than 50 years.
The former DDR was a soviet paragon, inflated by billions of West German Deutschmark. Constantly. It was a golden country in comparsion to Russia, Poland, Hungary and the other satellite states of the former soviet union. Life was not bad for the east Germans. That's why they never developed such cardinal skepticism towards communism, like the people in Poland, Hungary, Czech or Slovakia etc. did.
And second, after the reunification, most communistic government employees, agents and politicians never got replaced. This was a big fault in my opinion, but it is irreversible now. Many of them keep spreading their leftist agenda, in schools, in the state parliaments and especially in the media.
If you take a close look to the liberal celebrities in the U.S., you will discover that many of those people have German ancestors.
