So the big difference between Islam and Christianity is Islam started with a group that were conquering nations and trying to hold them. Its the religion of the dominant group. Christianity started as a religion within the super power of rome, as such it had to be much more moderate. This results in Christianity from the very beginning being a religion created to be able to coexist with other beliefs. Islam did not have to deal with other religions except to subjugate them, this made it a religion that has a much harder time getting along with others.
Another important difference between the two is that christianity is already in european nations, in many cases as a state religion. Islam isn't. So if I don't like either religion and one I can keep out I'm sure as hell going to do my best to do so.
